Buena Comida

Mexican food is great, but with the variety of similar food styles it can be a little confusing. Here’s a brief overview of some dishes based around the Tortilla.
Tortilla
A thin unleavened flat bread made from finely ground maize or wheat flour.
Tortillas can be eaten plain or used as wraps to form dishes such as tacos, burritos and quesadillas.
Taco
Traditional Mexican dish made from maize or wheat tortilla folded or rolled around a filling.
Tacos are filled with meat, fish, vegetable and cheese. Eaten by hand with salsa garnish or vegetables such as onion, tomato or lettuce.

Bad Is Good

This article was written by Richard Gabriel. Its such a good piece.
I and just about every designer of Common Lisp and CLOS has had extreme exposure to the MIT/Stanford style of design. The essence of this style can be captured by the phrase “the right thing.” To such a designer it is important to get all of the following characteristics right:
- Simplicity – the design must be simple, both in implementation and interface. It is more important for the interface to be simple than the implementation.
- Correctness – the design must be correct in all observable aspects. Incorrectness is simply not allowed.
- Consistency – the design must not be inconsistent. A design is allowed to be slightly less simple and less complete to avoid inconsistency. Consistency is as important as correctness.
- Completeness – the design must cover as many important situations as is practical. All reasonably expected cases must be covered. Simplicity is not allowed to overly reduce completeness.

Hot Hot Hot

If you’re a hot head and enjoy a good fiery chilli from time to time, its interesting to know the relative heat of your favorite food essential ingredient.
The following are measured in scovil units:
Jalapeno has 8,000 units
Serrano has 22.000 units
Habanero has 325,000 units
Ghost Chilli has 1,000,000+ units

Paint It Black
If you’ve used cast iron pans you’ll know just how good they are for cooking. If you haven’t, ask yourself why.
Cast iron pans have great heat distribution and retention. You can take cast iron from the hob and transfer it straight to the oven.
Cast iron cookware lasts years and improves with age, unlike modern non-stick pans which deteriorate with usage as the non-stick coating gets thinner and thinner.
One of the few drawbacks with cast iron cookware, is it takes a little more work in preparing them for first use, and then keeping them in a clean usable condition. Cast iron cookware is definitely NOT suitable for the dishwasher. You need to clean by hand.

There’s One Born Every Minute

I came across this online ad. The ad tag-line states: “Don’t Waste Your Money On Weight Loss Products That Don’t Work.” It should also say, “Including This One!”
Here’s the URL to the site: www.weightlossproductreviews.co.uk
On first viewing, the advert appears genuine, but further inspection reveals some unpleasant facts hidden away. For example it states in the top right hand column “As Featured On: The BBC, The Telegraph and The Sun ”. One could easily take this to mean the product has featured on a BBC program or as a feature article or advert in the The Telegraph or the Sun newspapers. This is not true.
The first part shows a young oriental girl with before and after photos. You can see she has lost weight. The copy suggests the oriental girl lost weight drinking the wonderful tea and using the effective colon cleansing product.
Further down the page a section marked Reviews suggests 14 individuals contacted the company with comments or questions. Once again this is not so. Its all fabricated.

He’s Making A Killing

Lord Of War is an excellent film. It blends a good story, a sprinkling of humour with a powerful morality tale. The film moves at a fast pace and Cage produces one of his strongest performances. The cinematography is excellent. The visuals superb. Fast crisp dialogue and tight editing.
Nic Cage is Yuri Orlav and he sells guns to anyone who pays, and any form of payment will do. Cash, drugs, diamonds, whatever you got.
Cage is excellent in the lead as the gun runner with no morals, who thinks fast on his feet in tight situations. Jared Ledo in a support role as Cage’s younger brother is excellent too. Ethan Hawke is the agent chasing Cage. Ian Holme is an opposite gun runner.
